What are we doing?

The day is structured around giving you the skills and support to plan and write a short travel story. Over the day, I will take you through some tips and tricks that will help you:

• Understand what good travel writing looks like;

• Engage with and uncover the stories of a place; and

• Write your story in an informative and engaging way.

At the end, you will have the chance to share your stories with others, and get feedback (optional – but highly recommended!)

Who should come?

The day will be useful to anyone interested in starting, continuing or re-starting creative writing, journaling, blogging – or just engaging with people and places in new and interesting ways.

And if you’re interested in breaking into the travel writing business – then this is a great place to start!

Who is leading the course?

Hi, I’m Jay! Among many other things, I worked as a travel and lifestyle journalist for a number of years from a base in Europe. My first novel, Vodka and Apple Juice, about my travels around central Europe, was published by Fremantle Press in 2018.

I am passionate about integrating creative passions into our ‘real lives’, and helping people to grow and develop their creative talents in safe, fun and supportive places.

I’m not sure if I can really write a whole article …

Plenty of people say that when they start! But if that’s not your goal for the day, please feel free to come along, listen and learn, and contribute as much as you feel comfortable.

• Facilitated travel writing workshop from 10 am to 3 pm (with breaks) in a beautiful Dwellingup location.

• Coffee and tea throughout the day (feel free to bring your own lunch – or I can suggest a number of options in town)
